Touching the things that were so important to my mother
We have much less influence on the things around us than they have on us. The little things can go unnoticed, or if allowed to accumulate, can amount to boxes of tiny mementos that add up to a lifetime of moments of shared joy and evidence of love. My mother wasn't the type of person to keep a scrap book, but collected all the trimmings to create volumes of them if she wanted to. Now as a grown woman, a decade after she left all her tiny reminders of her life to our family, I find myself feeling overwhelmed just to touch these precious things that she kept safe throughout her life.
